Devil’s Tower

We stayed at the KOA next to the entrance to Devil’s Tower. This 900′ spire was made famous in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and is an amazing thing to hike around. Unfortunately they do not allow dogs on the trails so we had to wait until it cooled down a bit so we could leave the dogs in the trailer while Eileen and I hiked around the base.

The first time I visited Devil’s Tower was back in 1983 when Julien and I climbed it on our way to Yosemite. I then climbed it with Jon in 1982 when he was just 6 years old.
